"Salty Dog" is the premiere catching prospect in baseball. He's a tall switch-hitting catcher with plus power and solid receiving skills. The only question, of course, is whether or not he will remain behind the plate. With Brian McCann already in Atlanta and establishing himself as one of the top young catchers in the minors, Salty might have to move to another position. But wherever he plays, he's going to be a huge presence in the lineup. He's got tremendous power and could hit 30-40 home runs a season in the big leagues. For now, he'll start out in Mississippi, but don't be shocked if he's in Atlanta at some point this season. -scout.com
Batting: Salty is a rare breed of catcher who is both an offensive force at the plate who also has solid recieving skills. Imagine a Victor Martinez who could throw people out. He has a nice approach at the plate and can switch hit which always helps. He projects to hit for high power and a nice average despite his lackluster 2006.
Speed: He doesnt have much speed, what catchers really do, but hes a smart baserunner that shouldnt hurt on the basepaths.
Defense: Salty is a solid defensive catcher for a big guy. HE is known to call a solid game and moves around the plate well. He also has a strong arm and a decent release.
Projection: With the emergence of Brian Mccann rumors of trades or a move to first came up. Well have to wait and see what the BRaves choose to do with his future. Either way he should have an impact on any major league team.
