Red Sox Top Prospect

Jacoby Ellsbury
Age: 23
Born: September 11, 1983
Height: 6-1
Weight: 185
Bats: Left
Throws: Left
Drafted: 1st round, 2005

Batting: Ellsbury projects as an ideal leadoff hitter. He has a great approach at the plate. He has the tools to hit for great average and has enough power to keep pitchers true. He mostly projects as a gap power guy though that is fine for a leadoff hitter. He has a mature aproach and has the tools to one day compete for a batting title.

Speed: He is extremely fast and knows how to run the bases (but does get picked off a little too often). He has great instincts and could steal 30 plus bases in the future.

Defense: Ellsbury is probbaly the best centerfielde rin the minor leagues. He can track down any ball and his instinct are top notch. Though his arm is lacking its more then servicable for center. There is no doubt that he could be a gold glover sometime soon.

Projection: I see Ellsbury as a Johnny Damon with a little less power. I think he could remove Crisp from center sometime in the near future.
